Impacting One Million Lives

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Amplio passed a milestone: Talking Books have now reached over one million listeners! By 2024, we expect to double that number.

This is possible because of you, our wonderful donors and supporters.

In 2020, your support provided Talking Books loaded with COVID-19 messages to Ghana’s Ministry of Health to raise awareness in vulnerable districts. You expanded our reach to new countries and regions, providing access to knowledge about agriculture, health, education, and more. Thanks to you, we were able to develop a self-service platform that will allow our partners to more easily and cost-effectively launch and run their programs. Today, Talking Books have reached Haiti and Bangladesh, and we’re expanding throughout West Africa. Finally, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Arm and VoLo Foundation. Year after year, these two organizations have provided tremendous support, allowing us to make long-term investments to scale up our impact.

As the world reflects on the importance of access to reliable information, Amplio will continue to ensure that no one is left behind. Together with our partners and donors like you, we are empowering the world’s most vulnerable communities with life-changing knowledge. Thank you.

With gratitude,

Cliff Schmidt
Founder & Executive Director

Empowering the World’s Poorest People

For Amplio, 2020 was a pivotal year. Amplio has now reached over 1,000,000 people in its target audience of people living on less than $1-2 a day. Amplio itself is growing and has added new staff in Seattle and Ghana. Amplio’s partnerships also grew, with new programs in Liberia, Ethiopia, and Zambia.

Talking Books are an effective technology to help some of the world’s poorest people. That’s why my wife Cathy and I are long-term supporters. Along with other Amplio supporters, we recently provided the initial funding to expand Amplio’s programs outside of Africa with Talking Book programs in Haiti and Bangladesh.

I invite you to join us and help Amplio grow worldwide! Your financial support enables knowledge sharing that empowers people to improve their lives.

Sincerely,

Programs

Knowledge Delivery

In response to the pandemic, Amplio Ghana and Ghana Health Services launched a COVID-19 awareness campaign in the Upper West Region. Some Talking Book programs were put on hold, while others took off. In addition, we laid the groundwork for new partnerships and programs in new countries and regions.

Ghana: COVID-19 Response

Our Ghana team partnered with Ghana Health Services on an emergency public health campaign to raise awareness about COVID-19.

Research & Design

Designing for Scale

In 2020, we hired a product manager and developed a suite of self-service products to help partners more easily and cost-effectively launch and run Talking Book programs—and measure their impact. We also made progress with the new Talking Book prototype that runs on rechargeable batteries.

Financials

By the Numbers

In 2019, Amplio received a major philanthropic gift. The difference between 2020 revenues and expenses is due to a board-approved spend down to support scaling our programs and invest in research and development.
